Ph.D. in Mathematics - Mathematics Emphasis

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has adopted the following course requirements for the Ph.D. degree. Any of these courses may be a part of the M.S. program, since Missouri S&T courses taken for the M.S. degree may be included in the Ph.D. program of studies.

A Ph.D. program with emphasis in mathematics must include:

· Three of the following courses:

o MATH 6108 Applied Matrix Theory

o MATH 6417 Functional Analysis I

o MATH 6418 Functional Analysis II

o MATH 6330 Theory of Differential Equations I

o MATH 6331 Theory of Differential Equations II

o MATH 6737 Financial Mathematics II

· In the list above, at least one of MATH 6108 or MATH 6417 is required.

· At least three other 5000-level or 6000-level MATH lecture courses. All students who intend to pursue the Ph.D. degree must take the Ph.D. Qualifying Examination within the first few semesters of entering our program. In addition, there is a Ph.D. Comprehensive Examination and the Ph.D. Thesis Defense. Please see the Graduate Catalog for more details.
